Summary: 

The session will take a case-based approach to understanding challenges faced by individuals living with cognitive impairment and their caregivers. It will examine methods to assess caregiver stress, health risks, and psychosocial challenges, particularly social isolation and loneliness. Attendees will gain insights into well-validated interventions, emerging care models, and the role of telehealth in addressing these issues.

Objectives:

• Identify the challenges faced by patients and their family caregivers living with cognitive impairment

• Discuss emerging care models and the role of telehealth in working with this population 

• Review key intervention strategies improving care for patients and families living with dementia          

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Joel Salinas, MD, MBA, MSc, FAAN, is the Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Isaac Health, an online brain health clinic specializing in interdisciplinary care for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. A behavioral neurologist, scientist, speaker, and author, Dr. Salinas is an expert in clinical and population health approaches to brain health. He helps lead the American Academy of Neurology’s National Brain Health Initiative and has conducted NIH-NIA-funded research on psychosocial determinants of health to promote cognitive well-being at the population level. Dr. Salinas is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and formerly served as the Lulu P. and David J. Levidow Assistant Professor of Neurology. Before NYU, he was an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, where he served as Clinical Director of the McCance Center for Brain Health.
